Alice the Palace Postwoman Visits Kennington Library!

During May, I had the pleasure of visiting Kennington Library for a wonderful book reading event with local families, sharing the Alice the Palace Postwoman series with young readers.

Held in the welcoming Kennington Village Centre, the event brought together children, their parents, library staff and volunteers for a cheerful afternoon of storytelling, creativity and community spirit.

The event opened with warm welcome words from the fantastic Library Manager, Dominique. During the event, I shared the story of Alice the Palace Postwoman, followed by colouring and craft activities, including a “Design a Pie for Alfie” challenge where creative minds imagined their own sweet or savoury pie creations. Children enjoyed the activities while families tucked into delicious pies, tarts and drinks kindly provided by the Friends of Kennington Library.

Afterwards, I read a second story, Alfie the Post Associate, before the afternoon finished with a raffle draw and book signing.

The winning entry, “Sunshine Pie,” looked good enough to eat straight off the page! Other favourites included “Everything Pie,” “Honey & Lemon Tea Pie” (complete with a compote!), and “Pizza Pie,” along with many other wonderfully imaginative sweet and savoury creations.

A special thank you goes to the Friends of Kennington Library, who generously provided the delicious pies and tarts that made the afternoon feel even more welcoming and community-spirited. Thank you also to the wonderful volunteer Julia, who supported the coordination of the creative space and helped welcome families on arrival.

And finally, a very big thank you to Dominique, whose thoughtful organisation from start to finish created such a warm and friendly experience for everyone attending. 🍰💌
