Storytime at the Library in Bampton!

On two warm and sunny Saturdays in June beneath bright blue skies, I had the pleasure of hosting story time sessions at Bampton Library, welcoming children for a morning of stories, creativity, and imagination.

Set in the heart of charming Bampton, Oxfordshire - which is well known as the real-life setting for the fictional village of Downton in Downton Abbey, the library provided a picturesque backdrop, with historic buildings and streets featured in several scenes of the show.

Children enjoyed readings of Alice the Palace Postwoman and Alfie the Post Associate, and looked for Ruby Robin and Syril Squirrel in the illustrations. The morning continued with a colouring activity, a special raffle, and a book signing where children could share their favourite moments from the stories.

Events like this highlight the vital role libraries play in bringing communities together. I’m incredibly grateful to the team at Bampton Library and the visitor centre for hosting the sessions and inspiring children to discover the joy of reading. Especially Carol-Amy Holdcroft pictured outside the library entrance. If you haven’t yet visited this quaint little library with marvellous amounts of character, then reach for your library card, pack a picnic, and enjoy some time on the green near the beautiful church soon!🍓💌
